Problem

Pregnant women in tribal areas were facing serious difficulties in having safe deliveries that protect the health of both the mother and the infant. This is because of connectivity issues and delays in timely communication to the nearest Hospital. They had nutritional deficiencies due to low intake of proper food and a lack of awareness about holistic nutrition. These factors were having a serious impact on women and children both.

Solution

The main objective of the programme is “Safe Delivery among the Pregnant women in Tribal Villages”, the main objective of the programme is that every Pregnant woman in the sub-plan area gets a safe delivery with a healthy baby. This programme is being implemented by the District Collector in the Sub-Plan area as Chairman of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA). The solutions include providing two Hostels for Pregnant women, at YTC, Salur Town and at YTC, Bhadragiri in Gumma Lakshmi Puram Mandal which are nearer to the sub-plan track. All the Tribal pregnant women who are living in hilltop areas and do not have connectivity and timely communication have been identified by the Asha, ANMs & AWW and they are rushed to the Hostels within the stipulated time and it has been ensured that they have a safe delivery by taking up the stipulated measures.

Outcomes

After starting the initiative, neonatal deaths have not ocurred. Routine follow-ups are being done and vaccination is being better monitored. Home deliveries have been prevented largely. No evidence of birth asphyxia, congenital anomalies or neonatal deaths in any of the babies has been witnessed. This project has mainly resulted into safe deliveries with healthy babies for the tribal women in the area,
