When Minakshi Bhargaw assumed the role of Principal at EMRS Niwali in September 2022, she faced two significant challenges. Students lacked interest in their studies, and teachers were disinterested in teaching. Located in the remote interiors of Niwali, the school served students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) tribal families who were initially hesitant to enroll their children. Minakshi, recognising the need for a transformative approach, initiated a series of innovative measures.

Out-of-the-Box Solutions

Minakshi’s first strategic move was to involve all students and teachers in sports activities, fostering competition and alleviating stress. This rejuvenation extended to both academic and non-academic staff, creating a positive ripple effect. The overall health of the school community improved significantly, with benefits ranging from cardiovascular fitness to mental well-being.

Co-curricular activities became integral to daily school life, enhancing students’ learning experiences at all academic levels. Participation in various activities, including science labs, art and crafts, study halls, social events, library usage, creative arts, and meditation, became mandatory, ensuring a holistic development approach.

Competitions in Rangoli making, painting, debates in tribal languages, and tribal dances were regularly organized, instilling a sense of pride and awareness among students about their culture, language, traditions, and heritage.

Soft Skills and Cultural Appreciation

EMRS Niwali places a special focus on developing soft skills, encouraging an appreciation for tribal culture, artifacts, beliefs, values, and dialects. This holistic approach aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals with a deep connection to their roots.

Technological Transformation

With 417 students benefiting from the school’s computer lab, EMRS Niwali maximised existing infrastructure, providing essential resources for optimal use. The school has embraced technology, with teachers utilizing Google and other educational channels. Remedial classes are regularly organized for students needing additional support, and intelligent interactive smart panels have become indispensable teaching aids.

The school has also introduced subject teachers, a significant shift that has propelled it from being a laggard to becoming an educational pioneer. This transformation reflects a commitment to embracing innovation and technology for the betterment of students and the entire school community.

In essence, EMRS Niwali, under the leadership of Minakshi Bhargaw, has embarked on a journey of educational rejuvenation, transforming challenges into opportunities and providing a nurturing environment for holistic student development.
